Built for: Marri & Rye, a café on Scarborough Beach Road in Mount Hawthorn
Suits: Cafés, bakeries, small food businesses

A café’s website has one job on a phone at eight in the morning: what do you have, what does it cost, are you open, and where do I park. So Counter is built around a full priced menu with dietary marks, an opening-hours block that knows what day it is, and a cross-contamination note written by someone who has actually had to answer that question at the counter.

The menu is typeset rather than styled. Dot leaders run from the dish to the price, the numbers are tabular so the column lines up, and modifiers hang off the dish they belong to. It is the part of the build we'd point at.

Marri & Rye does not exist. If you turn up at 118 Scarborough Beach Road expecting breakfast you will be disappointed.
